National Correctional Officers Week May 3-8

National Correctional Officers Week is underway – a week to recognize people who work in jails and correctional facilities. The recognition week was first started in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, and is typically celebrated in the first week of May.

Captain Jim Borgen is the Jail Administrator for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. He tells KFIZ News that the community should be very proud of the men and women who work at the jail, and that its important to recognize them for all that they do.

“Correctional Officers are often the unsung heroes. Nobody really gets to see what goes on behind the walls of jails and correctional institutions because it’s just not in the public eye. But they have a very difficult and dangerous job keeping the community safe.”

Correctional Officers Week runs through Saturday.
