New Principal Approved By Board; Rose To Top Out Of 11 Applicants

The Fond du Lac School Board officially approved the hiring Monday of Dave Michalkiewicz as the new principal at Fond du Lac High School, beginning with the 2022/23 School year.

A total of 11 applications were submitted for the principal position that was set to open up at the end of the current school year.

That information was provided to KFIZ News by Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fleig and Nicole Noonan, District Coordinator of Communications.

The position was originally posted on February 4, 2022, with the opening also announced via

  • Wisconsin Education Career Access Network (WECAN)
  • Sent to all staff
  • Posted in staff workrooms and lounges
  • District’s website
  • District’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

Noonan also told KFIZ News that out of the 11 applicants, 4 were named as finalists, with 3 of the 4 accepting interviews.

The first round of interviews were on 2-24-22, and consisted of two interview teams made up of staff from the high school, administrators, and parent representatives on each team.

Each of the 3 candidates interviewed with both teams.

From that group of three, two were moved onto a 2nd interview with a consulting firm that specializes in hiring educational leaders.

The 2nd round of interviews were completed on 2-28-22 and 3-1-22, with Michalkiewicz being chosen to fill the position that was set to open up when current principal Matt Steinbarth moves to the Chief of Schools and Educational Accountability position starting in the 2022-23 school year.

Michalkiewicz has been the Athletic Director and Physical Education Coordinator at the high school since 2015.
