New Sheriff’s Deputy Reunited With Officer Who Inspired Him

Words of encouragement from a Fond du Lac Police Officer over the years kept a young boy’s dream of some day becoming a law enforcement officer on track and now that boy is a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy. Fond du Lac Police Officer Steve Olson says he first met Brennan Wagner when Wagner was a fifth grader at Roberts Elementary and Olson was the DARE officer. He says Wagner told him he was going to be a police officer just like Olson some day. Olson says he encouraged him to stay in school and make good decisions. On Friday’s Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s segment of KFIZ’s Behind the Badge program Olson presented Wagner with a gift of a stuffed Lion, Darren the DARE mascot, to keep in his squad car. Olson says now Darren can ride with Wagner and keep him safe. Wagner grew up in Fond du Lac, but started out as a police officer in Milwaukee. He says he’s happy to now be a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy. He says pinning the badge on the first time was a proud moment in his life.
