New Tax Scam

The Department of Trade and
Consumer Protection says a bizarre tax scam is seeing scammers file returns
under a person’s name and have a refund placed into that person’s bank account.
The scammers then pretend to be the IRS, call the individual, and order the
person to return the extra money that was refunded to their account. But the consumer is led to
send the money to a fake account, allowing the scammers to profit – rather than
having the money returned to the actual IRS.
