New Version of Runoff Risk Advisory Forecast Available for Farmers

Wisconsin farmers have an improved way to help determine the
threat of runoff before they plan to spread manure. The Department of Ag, Trade
and Consumer Protection launched a new version of the Wisconsin Runoff Risk
Advisory Forecast on Friday that gives farmers a localized look at the threat
of runoff. The forecast looks at soil moisture, precipitation and temperature
forecasts, snow cover and landscape characteristics to make its predictions and
is updated twice a day by the National Weather Service. The new version allows
farmers to zoom in from a statewide map to their local area. DATCP officials
say the runoff risk forecast does not replace nutrient management planning or
emergency planning in case of manure spills. Click Here to visit the website
