New Walleye Limits Go Into Effect Today

It’s April 1st, but this is no joke…

Anglers will soon be catching fewer walleye on the Lake Winnebago System. There are new reduced bag limits that go in effect as of today. Fishermen are now only able to keep three walleye per day. Those bag limits include Lake Winnebago, the Upriver Lakes of Poygan, Winneconne, and Butte des Morts, as well as the tributaries which feed the system.

The DNR says limiting the number of fish now, will sustain a strong walleye population, but anglers are mixed on the new limits, which are in place indefinitely. DNR fisheries biologists will continue to evaluate the changes each year.
