NFDL PD Steps Up Fireworks Enforcement

With Fourth of July celebrations fast approaching, the North Fond du Lac Police Department is warning residents to make wise choices regarding the use of fireworks or suffer the consequences.

Following all of last year’s cancellations due to the pandemic, NFDL Police are expecting a lot more incidents this summer and warn of greater consequences.

The only fireworks that comply with NFDL Ordinance 14.18 are sparklers not exceeding 36” in length, stationary cones and fountains, toy snakes, smoke bombs, caps, noise makers and confetti poppers with less than ¼ grain of explosive mixture.

Permits issued or sold by fireworks vendors and relied upon by buyers and users of fireworks are not valid under State law.

“Our officers have been instructed to diligently follow up on complaints and to initiate enforcement action whenever violations are observed,” said Chief Darren Pautsch.

Anyone who possesses, uses, or sells illegal fireworks is subject to a forfeiture of up to $1,000 per violation
