NFDL Special Meeting On Vacating Portion Of Lakeshore Drive

Village of North Fond du Lac officials may have found a quicker way to silence train horns at the Lakeshore Drive crossing. The village board will hold a special meeting Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. to consider a resolution to vacate Lakeshore Drive at the crossing. Village Administrator Chuck Hornung says they will give notice to nearby homeowners and in 40 days will meet on October 21st to pass the resolution. He says a copy will be given to Canadian National after that and the horns will be silenced. He says concrete barriers would be put in at the crossing and no one would be able to cross it except for train traffic. Hornung says it’s a faster way of dealing with the train horns than closing the crossing or getting an extension for a waiver that lifted the quiet zone at the crossing.
