No Charges in WMHI Patient Death

No criminal charges will be filed in the death of a 58-year old man who was a patient at the Winnebago Mental Health Institution. The Winnebago County Coroner reported the death at a local hospital back in November – which was related to a medical complaint at the mental health facility. The complaint argues the man fell around 10:00am the morning of October 15th, but wasn’t taken in until around midnight. The man was diagnosed with a brain bleed and later died at the hospital. An investigation into the case shows the man had purposefully fallen, and that the actions of the doctor who examined him did not rise to the level of criminal negligence.
