No New COVID Spread At FDL County Sheriff’s Department

Staff at the Fond du Lac County Jail are continuing to take steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 among inmates after a group of them tested positive for the virus last month. A press release sent out by Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt on February 18th explained that 19 inmates had tested positive, of which 17 were asymptomatic – which made it difficult to find out where transmission of the virus began.

Lieutenant Tyler Broderick is the Assistant Jail Administrator – he tells KFIZ News that despite the recent spread, the protocols set in place at the start of the pandemic have kept staff and inmates safe.

“We had the ability to work through the issues and saw how other facilities dealt with it. We were able to use our protocols and change them as we had to from learning from others having it and I think when it came here, we really didn’t bat an eye. It worked very well and everybody knew their job responsibilities and we’ve been staying on top of it since it been in the facility.”

The spread identified last month is the first instance of known spread between inmates at the jail in the 11 months since the pandemic began.
