North Main Street Reconstruction Project Delayed

A construction project that was set to take place on
north Main Street in Fond du Lac this summer is being delayed. The section of
north Main Street between Johnson Street and Merrill Avenue was expected to close
later this month or in early July for a full reconstruction project. As bids
for the project came in, however, the City found them to be much higher than
anticipated. “The low bid was much higher than our estimate, thus much higher
than our budget,” City Manager Joe Moore said. “We decided that we were going
to wait until the end of the calendar year and we are going to solicit that
project again. We’ll start completely over, send out information to all of the
contractors, and then see if we get a better price.” Moore adds that they received
a low number of bids for the project, which he says isn’t surprising
considering its at or near the peak of construction season and most contractors
don’t need the extra work.
