Ahern, Susan O’Leary

After a courageous battle with cancer, Susan entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the age of 76 at her home with her family by her side. She was a resident of Fond du Lac WI, and Naples Fl.

She is survived by her beloved husband John of 51 years, loving mother of John E. III “Tripp” (Colleen) Ahern of Fond du Lac, Brigid (Rob Waeldner) of Yarmouth ME, Timothy (Rose) Ahern of Fond du Lac, Tony (Linda) Ahern of Fond du Lac, Maggie (Brian Murphy) of Charlotte NC, and 16 Grandchildren that she dearly cherished. She is further survived by her sister Kathleen Fieweger of Naples, FL and her brother John O’Leary of Winter Springs, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Helen O’Leary as well as her sister Ellen Kuehl and brother Tom O’Leary.

Susan was born in Neenah, WI on November 25, 1936 the daughter of John and Helen Walter O’Leary. She attended St. Patrick grade school and Neenah High School.

She attended UW-Madison for 2 years and graduated from Marquette University in 1959 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She Married John E. Ahern on June 9, 1962.

Susan has been a long time member of Holy Family Parish in Fond du Lac and a former president of Charity Club and Service League in Fond du Lac. She was also a member of St. John The Evangelist Parish in Naples, FL and former president of the Woman’s Club at the Pelican Isle Yacht Club in Naples, Fl.

Susan will long be remembered for her total and unwavering commitment to her family and in particular her 16 Grandchildren. In addition, her Irish wit and general love of life along with her many dear friends are her true legacies. For the past 20 years she has spent her time between Fond du Lac WI and Naples, FL.

Visitation will be held at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St. Fond du Lac, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday September 4, 2013 from 9:00 to 10:45 AM at Holy Family Parish Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish Church at 11:00 AM on Wednesday.  Interment will be private for the family.

In loving memory of Susan, in lieu of flowers, memorials in her name are appreciated to St. Mary’s Springs Academy Second Century Building Campaign, 255 Hwy K, Fond du Lac WI 54937.

Susan’s family would like to thank Hospice, Agnesian Healthcare, Above and Beyond Care, and Doctors Fownes and Jones for all their special care and attention during this difficult time.
