Alice E. Buhl

Alice E. Buhl, age 83, of Chilton, died on January 12, 2019, at Atrium Care Center in Chilton. She was born May 23, 1935, daughter of the late Frank and Irmina Kraus. She met Alvin Buhl at a dance at Hollywood Resort on Wolf Lake and on October 22, 1955, they were married at St. Peter Catholic Church in St. Peter.

Alice took an active role in her faith as a member of the St. Martin parish in Charlestown and then the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Chilton. She spent a lot of time volunteering with the Christian Mothers at St. Martin. She also taught CCD for many years getting the children ready for First Communion.

Alice was a housewife and she was most comfortable in her kitchen. She loved to bake and was happy to share her Christmas cookies and other treats with her family, neighbors, and her caretakers. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, and to Alice, they could do no wrong. She always looked forward to having visitors and everyone knew her as “such a sweet lady.” She looked forward to getting together with Alvin’s family twice a year at 7 Angels to talk and laugh for a couple of hours over lunch, even if they ended up fighting over who was going to pay the bill.

Alice is survived by her children: James (Sandra) Buhl, Mark (Cindy) Buhl, and Mary (Randy) Vander Meulen; grandchildren: Rachel (Caleb) Bakker, Matthew (special friend, McKenzie Rasmussen) Buhl, Alex Vander Meulen, Sarah Vander Meulen, Carla Vander Meulen, Andrew Vander Meulen, and Zachary Vander Meulen; brothers: Harvey (Ruth) Kraus and Jerry (Patti) Kraus; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Dreikosen, Delphine Lourich, and Verne (Leroy) Thiel; and brother-in-law: Fr. Wilbur Buhl.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents: Frank and Irmina Kraus; Alvin’s parents: Fred and Elizabeth Buhl; a brother: Andrew Kraus; and brothers-in-law: Jerome Buhl, Sylvester Dreikosen, and Charles Lourich.

A funeral service is set for 11:30am on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton, with Fr. Ryan Krueger presiding. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 9:00am until 11:00am on the day of the service. Burial will take place at 2:30pm at St. Martin Catholic Cemetery in Charlestown on Friday, January 18, 2019.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Atrium Care Center and to Calumet County Hospice Care for their excellent care.
