Allen J. Buechel

Allen J. Buechel, age 74, of rural Malone “St. Peter”, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022, with his loving family at his side at Ascension Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. He suffered an apparent heart attack the previous day.

He was born October 6, 1947, in Campbellsport, Wisconsin to the late Herman & Ludvina (Freund) Buechel. Allen attended St. Peter’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Springs High School in 1965.

On June 1, 1968, he married Betty A. Morgan at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg.

Allen served on the Fond du Lac County Board for 17 years. He was elected as County Executive in 1993 and has continued serving since. He was elected to his eighth term in 2021; he has been the longest serving county executive in the State of Wisconsin. He was a long-time member of the WCA (Wisconsin Counties Association); proudly served as their president for a year. Allen served on many other state and county organizations.

He was a member of Holy Family Parish-St. Peter Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty (Morgan) Buechel; his daughter, Tina Buechel of Oshkosh; his son, Troy (Jaringo) Buechel of Richlandtown, PA and his granddaughters, Hannah and Elizabeth. He is further survived by three sisters, Joan (Don) Steffes of rural St. Cloud “St. Joe”, Diana (Donald) Abler of rural Glenbeulah, and Joyce (Ron) Ver Haagh of Fond du Lac; his brothers-in-law, Jack Steffen of rural St. Cloud “St. Joe” and Francis (Theresa) Morgan of rural Fond du Lac “Johnsburg”; his sister-in-law, Janet Buechel of Fond du Lac; his step brother, David (Karen) Tetzke of Larsen, WI; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Herman & Ludvina Buechel; stepmother, Lucille Tetzke Buechel; his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Leo & Loretta Morgan; three sisters, Marilyn (Roger) Schneider, Betty (Lester) Stephanie, and Teresa Steffen; his brother, Herman Buechel; and his brother-in-law, Floyd Morgan.

A Liturgy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way Fond du Lac, WI 54937. Burial will take place at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in St. Peter following the Mass.

Visitation: Family and friends may visit Allen’s family at Holy Family Church in Fond du Lac on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be at the church Saturday morning, April 2nd from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established in his name.
