Alma B. (Abhold) Knaus

Alma B. (Abhold) Knaus, age 98, a resident of St. Francis Terrace and formerly living at 773 Ruggles Street in Fond du Lac, WI died Thursday, June 11, 2015. She was born on November 10, 1916 near Calvary Station, WI and was the daughter of the late Michael and Katherine (Ott) Simon. Alma attended Garfield Grade School, Saint John’s Catholic School in Johnsburg, WI and graduated in 1934 from Saint Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du Lac. 

On August 16, 1938 she married Norbert Abhold at Saint John’s Catholic Church in Johnsburg. They lived 2 ½ years in St. Anne, WI and then moved to Armstrong, WI, where they farmed and established a mink ranch. Norbert passed away on October 13, 1979. Alma wintered in Winter Haven, FL and summered in Fond du Lac. On August 3, 1994 she married Leo Knaus. Leo passed away on October 27, 2010. 

Alma was a member of Holy Family Catholic Community in Fond du Lac and belonged to the Armstrong Altar Society, Armstrong Rosary Club and was a 4-H Club leader. 

Alma is survived by her five children; Thomas (Ramona) Abhold of Armstrong, Joanie (Dwight) Weiser of Fond du Lac, Susan (Mike) Gusse of Saint Croix Falls, WI, Mary Wagner of Sartell, MN, Peter (Mary Jo) Abhold of Armstrong and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son; three sisters, Josephine (Hugo) Salm, Mildred (Francis) Costello, Cedona (Herbert) Hass, a brother, Harold, a son-in-law, David E. Wagner, Jr. and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett St. in Fond du Lac. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Armstrong. Family and friends may call on the family at the St. Francis Home Chapel on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the Mass. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Francis Terrace – Employee Fund, 345 E. 1st Street in Fond du Lac, Agnesian Hospice Hope, 239 Trowbridge Dr. in Fond du Lac and/or a charity of your choice.
