Arthur T. Pohland

Arthur T. Pohland, 95, of Chilton, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Chilton. Arthur was born May 22, 1920, son of the late Otto Frederick & Emma (Ebelt) Pohland. Arthur married Ruby Margaret Enneper on November 8, 1952 at the Lutheran Church in Brillion. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1988.

Arthur proudly served his great nation from 1942 to 1946 in the United States Army. During that time, he served with the 62nd General Hospital in England and France during WWII as a medic. Upon returning home on Christmas Eve 1945, Art worked in the nursery business. In 1950 he was appointed as Chilton’s City Clerk, a position he held for over 34 years until his retirement in 1984. He was also a proud past member of the Chilton Fire Department.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #125 and VFW Post 3153. Arthur enjoyed tending to his beautiful flower gardens and vast vegetable gardens. The bountiful harvest, year after year, was often canned and saved for delicious home cooked meals throughout the year. In his free time, he also enjoyed fishing, watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, spending time at his cottage on Kangaroo Lake in Door County, and traveling around to listen to Jerry Schneider’s Polka Band. Above all else, Arthur treasured his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; there was nothing that brought him more joy than time spent with each and every one.

Survivors include his son, David Pohland of Ripon; two daughters, Barbara A. (Tim) Schwarz of Chilton and Paula (Jeff) Koelpien of Green Bay; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Adam) Kohlbeck, Jessica Schwarz, and Michael (girlfriend, Mackenzi) Schwarz; great-grandchildren Hudson Kohlbeck and Addy Kohlbeck; a sister, Alice McNeely; sisters-in-law, Viola Olson, Lois (John) Davis, and Florence Enneper; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by two brothers, Gilbert and Robert Pohland; a sister, Betty Larson, along with numerous sister and brother-in-laws.

Funeral services will be at 6:00pm on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main Street) in Chilton with the Rev. Michael Safford-Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00pm to 5:45pm on Tuesday.
