Arvin J. Kahl

Arvin James “A.J.” Kahl, 83, of Waupun, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the Markesan Resident Home.

A.J. was born July 20, 1935 to William and Amanda (Kohn) Kahl in Marquette Township, Green Lake County.  A.J. graduated as valedictorian from Princeton High School in 1953 where he was involved in all sports. On June 8, 1957 he married Donna Welk.  A.J. was a correctional officer at “The Walls” for 30 years. He served as president and other offices for Local 18. His second vocation was the one he liked best.  For 40 years he loved the smiling faces of the children as he drove school bus for Bill, Lee, and Jim of Edmunds Bus Service. He enjoyed umpiring women’s softball in Waupun, watching Waupun High School sports, the Brewers, and the Packers.  He belonged to various bowling teams and loved to play cards with friends. A.J. was a member of Union-Congregational Church where he served as trustee. He sang in the church choir and considered the other choir members family. When he was declared legally blind he continued to sing or at least hum along.

A.J. is survived by his wife, Donna; a son, Michael Kahl of Oshkosh; a daughter, Amy (Will) Manier of Randolph; a daughter, Kathleen (Howie) Gloff of Kenosha; a granddaughter, Adrienne (Peter) Kangas of Evansville; a granddaughter, Celeste (John) Deno of Menasha; a grandson, Greg (Dawn) Manier of Randolph; two great-grandsons, John Jacob Deno and Lucas William Manier; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffrey Kahl; a sister, Joyce Ehrenberg and her husband, Thad; a brother, Arnold Kahl and his wife, Joanne; and a sister, Shelby Jean Giese.

Memorial services for A.J. Kahl will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Robert Sherwood officiating.
