Barbara A. (Assaf) VanLuven

Barbara A. (Assaf) VanLuven, of Fond du Lac, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2015 at her home. She was born November 13, 1946 in Fond du Lac, the eldest of seven children of the late Richard John and Ella (Fiebig) Assaf. Barbara was a graduate of St. Mary’s Springs Academy, Class of 1964. She held various jobs throughout her life, beginning at Everix Bakery on South Main Street. After high school, she began her lifelong career in Information Technology (IT) beginning at A. C. Nielsen Company in Fond du Lac as a key punch operator, progressing to managing the data entry department. She later went on to work at a private data processing service company. Barbara retired from the City of Fond du Lac, Management Information Systems Department. She married Carter VanLuven on October 24, 1981. He preceded her in death on August 5, 2014. Barb enjoyed painting and gardening. During her lifetime, she was able to experience her love of history and lifelong interests of the worlds many cultures through the travels of her husband. 

She is survived by her four children, Joseph (Kathy) Reinecke of Wautoma, WI, Sara Reinecke-Hernandez (significant other Scott Parent) of Taycheedah, WI, Paul Reinecke and Andrew Van Luven (fiancée Sarah Muhyar) of Fond du Lac, WI; seven grandchildren, Anthony Reinecke of Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN, Brianna Reinecke of Wautoma, WI, Matthew (Kayla) Bingen, Caitlin and Mitchell Hernandez of Taycheedah, Jordan and Logan Reinecke of Fond du Lac and great-grandchild Brooklyn Bingen of Fond du Lac. She is further survived by eight nieces and nephews, thirteen great-nieces and nephews; siblings Patricia “Treitsie” Welsch of Fond du Lac, Sharon “Dolly” (Manis) Mullarkey of Mansfield, TX, Sheila Assaf of Fond du Lac, WI, Richard Michael (Maxine) Assaf of Eldorado, WI, Mary (Tom) Kunde of Oshkosh, WI and Lisa Graham of Fond du Lac, WI.

Visitation will be held at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave. in Fond du Lac on Monday, June 1, 2015 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a Celebration of Barb’s Life to follow at 7:00 PM. At Barb’s request, cremation has taken place. 

The family extends a special thank you to Aurora Hospice caregivers; Amanda, Virginia, Ashley, Shelly, Tammy and Kelly, for making Barb’s last days peaceful, and comforting Barb and the family throughout her illness.
