Barbara Rose O’Connor O’Brien Mc Bride
Barbara Rose O’Connor O’Brien Mc Bride, 68, of Fond du Lac, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 with family at her side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born in Fond du Lac, on October 30, 1944, a daughter of Stephen J. and Elizabeth (Bonnell) O’Connor.
On December 29, 1965 she married George W. O’Brien at Our Lady of Angels, Armstrong. On July 19, 2003 Barbara married Dr. Fuller McBride at their home at Lake De Neveu.
Barb was a 1962 graduate of Campbellsport High School. In 1965 she received her Licensed Practical Nurse from Fond du Lac Vocational and Adult School for Practical Nurses. In 1986 she received an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Moraine Park Technical College and became a Registered Nurse.
She was employed with Agnesian Health Care, Fond du Lac County Home Health and Columbia Hospital, Milwaukee. She was a board member for the Friends of Sarnelli House.
Barb enjoyed quilting with the girls, knitting, Sunday night porch sitting, traveling, and trips around Lake De Neveu. Barb was known for her quick wit, sharp tongue, and her compassionate care for others.
Barb is survived by her husband, Dr. Fuller Mc Bride; their nine children, Erin O’Brien (Chris Pellerin), Sean (Candi) O’Brien, Meghan (Paul) Hyland, Patrick McBride, Tim (Lisa) McBride, Michael (Christine) McBride, Terry (Christina) McBride, Colleen (Gary) Goettelman and Kevin (Beth) McBride; their grandchildren, Kean O’Brien, Brenna and Cara Pellerin, Cavanaugh and Finn Hyland, Rory, Connor, Helen, Carly, Mitchell, John, Seamus, Ela and Madeline McBride and Kathryn and Liam Goettelman; special grandchildren, Abigail and Ethan Quackenboss.
Barb is also survived by her ten siblings, Steve (Sharon) O’Connor, Tim (Donna) O’Connor, Dennis (Sharon) O’Connor, T.J. (Donna) O’Connor, Brian (Diane) O’Connor, Michael (Janet) O’Connor, Daniel (Susan) O’Connor, Patrick (Cindy) O’Connor, Mary (Ken) McPherson and Anne (Paul) Quackenboss; other relatives and many friends.
Preceding Barbara in death are her parents and her former husband, George.
Visitation: Barb’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. There is also visitation at the funeral home on Monday, April 22, from 9:30 until 10:15.
Services: At 10:30 AM on Monday, April 22, a Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Zacherl Funeral Home. The Rev. Chuck Beierwaltes, Redemptorist, will preside. Cremation will follow these traditional services with burial at a later time in St. Charles Cemetery.
