Bernard Joseph Koenen

Bernard Joseph Koenen, 83, of Fond du Lac passed away at St. Agnes Hospital on Tuesday, January 15, 2013.  Bernie was born in Fond du Lac on February 28, 1929, a son of Joseph and Rosa (Schaub) Koenen.

On June 18, 1949 he married Vivian F. Wilson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fond du Lac.

Bernie served in the National Guard 127 Red Arrow Division.  He was first employed at Quicfrez and then he was employed with Tolbin Tool and Die for 39 years before retiring at the age of 65. He was a member of Holy Family Parish.

Bernie enjoyed his little French Poodle, “Baby Boo.” 

Bernie is survived by Vivian, his wife for 63 years; two children, Robert (Mary) Koenen of Fond du Lac and Edith “Dee” Thomma (Special Friend Dale) of Chilton; grandchildren, Andrew Koenen, Amelia (Mitch) Petersen, Angela (fiance Mark Bacon) Kraemer, Shawn (Keegan) Kraemer, Shaunna Thomma, Teri Thomma, Katie (Nick) Schmidt, Stephanie Thomma, Megan Thomma; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Barbara Mendlesky; other relatives and friends. 

Preceding Bernie in death are his parents; three brothers, Dennis, David and Raymond; son-in-law, Stephen Thomma.

Visitation:  Bernie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 18, 2013 from 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 200 S. Peters Avenue Fond du Lac. 

Services:  At 11:00 AM on Friday, January 18, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church.  Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Memorials in his name may be donated to the charity of your choice.
