Bonney M. Zimmer

Bonney M. Zimmer (nee Preis), of Fond du Lac, passed away at her home on Monday, October 11th, with her husband, Raymond, by her side. Bonney was born on May 14, 1945 in Wausau, the daughter of the late Bertrum and Marion Preis (nee Sontag).  She spent the majority of her early years in the Milwaukee area, graduating from Pius High School in 1963.  Following high school, she took a job in the office at Cuneo Press.

In June 1965, Bonney married Ray Zimmer and moved to Campbellsport, where they started a family.  There she was an active member of the local community, serving as a Sunday school teacher and participating in a weekly bowling league.  In 1980, Ray and Bonney moved to Marshfield, where Bonney worked at the Marshfield Clinic as an Oral Surgery Assistant.  Over her 15 year career, she became a well-respected clinician, building excellent relationships in and outside of her department, volunteered for on-call and emergency shift, and was even called upon to support in crisis situations.  She gained many close friendships over those years, that she maintained throughout her life.

In 1988, Ray and Bonney purchased property on Solberg Lake, just outside of Phillips, WI.  This became their haven, especially during the summer months.  She spent her time boating, reading, crocheting, and being with family.  The cabin was her favorite place to be and you would often find her playing a game of cribbage, napping on the couch, or just listening to the rain.

In 1995, Ray and Bonney returned to the Fond du Lac area, where they built a home and Bonney worked in various roles, never quite finding the comradery she had at the Marshfield Clinic.  She retired in 2007.

In 2009, Bonney was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  She underwent 6 months of intense Chemotherapy.  Although she lived in remission, she was plagued with many health issues following her fight with cancer, ultimately leading to the onset of, and long battle with, dementia.

Those left behind to cherish Bonney’s memory include her husband, Raymond; children, Scott (Janet) Zimmer of Oshkosh, Chris (Katie) Zimmer of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Jamie Zimmer of Hudson, WI, and Kelly (Ryan) Klemme of Mukwonago; 9 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Tom Zimmer; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine (Dennis) Bartoli, Helen Lauters, and Irene Brenon. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to Bonney’s parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Suzanne Zimmer, brother-in-law, Carl Zimmer, and In-laws, Gerald and Antonia Zimmer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15th from 1 until 3 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth St Way, Fond du Lac, WI 54937. Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 3:00 PM. Private burial will take place at Rienzi Cemetery at a later date.
