Buelah R. Hawig

Beulah Rosaline Hawig (Prost), age 82, died peacefully in her home on September 6, 2016. She was born on April 19, 1934, in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late Edward and Loretta Prost (Pflum).



Beulah attend Holy Trinity Elementary School in Kewaskum as a child. She graduated Salutatorian from Kewaskum High School in the Class of 1951. During Beulah’s teenage years in Kewaskum, she met the love of her life Sylvester (Chick) Hawig. Beulah married Chick at Holy Trinity Church on September 10, 1955. 



Beulah worked for several years at Regal Ware after high school as secretary to the Corporate Controller. In 1958, Chick and Beulah entered the bowling business. They owned and successfully operated bowling centers in Eastern Wisconsin for 25 years. Their flagship location was Pla-Mor Lanes in Chilton which they operated for 25 years. They also owned Kewaunee Bowl in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, for 5 years. Beulah was very active in amateur bowling throughout Wisconsin during their tenure. In the Chilton Bowling Association, Beulah was the first woman to bowl a sanctioned 600 series.



After selling Pla-Mor Lanes, Beulah worked at Furniture Plus in Brillion and other office jobs in northeastern Wisconsin. 



Beulah had a passion for reading. She would read books from just about any genre but had a preference for non-fiction and historical fiction. No matter where Beulah went she had a book under her arm. She enjoyed several other hobbies which included: bowling, shooting pool, golfing, and playing card games. 



Beulah also loved to travel. Chick and Beulah took road trips all over the United States to compete in bowling tournaments and to attend major league baseball games. Annual bowling trips included the Petersen Classic in Chicago and the National tournament. Annual baseball excursions took Chick and Beulah to every major league city in the country. At one point, they had attended a ball game at every active major league stadium. Other highlights of their travels included trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Europe/Germany, and a month long driving trip to Alaska. In addition, they took an annual fishing trip to Houghton, Michigan to rest and prepare for each year’s upcoming bowling season.



Beulah was a member of Good Shepherd Parish in Chilton. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Adult Choir. 



Survivors include her husband of 61 years Chick Hawig. Children include Christine deCoster (New Holstein); Jeanne M. (James) Lillich (Chilton); Joey D. (Danelle) Hawig (Muskego). 



Beulah was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Arnold Sr. and Agnes Hawig; her brothers-in-law Arnold Hawig Jr. and Roger ‘Tex’ Hawig; and her son-in-law James deCoster. 



Funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Chilton. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2016 and on Saturday, at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. A parish prayer service will be held Friday evening at the funeral home at 7:00 pm.



A memorial fund has been established in the name of Beulah Rosaline Hawig for future charitable contributions.
