Byron G. Hacker

Byron G. Hacker, age 74, of Chilton, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Ascension Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.  He was born November 23, 1947 in Green Bay, son of the late Glenn W. & Vivian K. Krueger Hacker.

After proudly serving his country in the United States Army as a Surgical Assistant, he was honorably discharged and married Judy Spykerman on May 27, 1972 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton.

Byron diligently worked as the Chief Juvenile Intake Officer for Calumet County until his retirement after 33 years of service.  Following his retirement, Byron worked side by side with his wife, Judy, at Westend Creations, always delivering arrangements of beauty to brighten the lives of those throughout the community.

He was an active member of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Chilton and the American Legion Post in Chilton.  As a man with a ‘green thumb’, Byron volunteered countless hours with the Master Gardeners of Calumet County, dedicated his time to the National Junior Horticultural Association and worked as a judge of all things horticultural for county fairs throughout the State of Wisconsin.  His love and dedication to the youth and their education of planting in the community, led to his recognition through 4H into their Hall of Fame.  He served with 4H while his children were active, and continued to offer his time and expertise more than 20 years later.

Byron was a man who cared for and took time with every person he came in contact with, but he cherished moments spent with his family, especially God’s gift of his grandchildren.  Lovingly known as the “Candyman”, he always made sure to have candy in his pocket for them to enjoy while with with him.

Survivors include his wife: Judy; his children: Nathan G. Hacker, Jeffrey B. Hacker, Marissa L. (Scott) Heimerl; 6 grandchildren: Lauryn Hacker and her special friend, Derek, Brandon Hacker, Chase Hacker, Meadow Hacker, Mason & Cailyn Heimerl; his siblings: Laurel (Gary) Vondrachek, Dr. Roger R. (Esther) Hacker, Leon J. Hacker; and his brother-in-law: Geary Spykerman.  He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Byron was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law: Gerhard & Delores Spykerman; and his sisters-in-law: Susan Hacker & Kathryn Spykerman.

Funeral service will be at 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton with Rev. Thomas Schmitt officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Junction.  A time of visitation will take place at the Wieting Family Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until 3:45 pm on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Byrons’s family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Ascension Calumet Hospital and the wonderful team at Cardiac Rehab for all of the love and care that was provided to both Byron and his family.
