Carl A. Lilge

Carl A. Lilge, 92, of Fond du Lac, our caring, patient, faith filled and positive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend…went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Harbor Haven Health and Rehab in Fond du Lac.

Carl was born on May 21, 1923 in Kiel, WI, the son of Arnold and Ida Schmidt Lilge. He attended St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Plymouth, and graduated from Elkhart Lake High School in 1942.

Carl recently celebrated 65 years of married life on September 21, 2015 with his lovely wife, Gertrude Doebert Lilge, whom he married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plymouth in 1950.

Carl served in the US Army from 1948-1949, joining the Air Force from 1950-1951, and then inactive reserves until1954. He was a member of the American Legion.

Carl moved to Fond du Lac in 1951 and worked for the Fond du Lac County DHIA until 1953, Don’s Mobil Service Station until 1969, then worked for Mercury Marine until his retirement in 1988.

Carl was a faithful man through his words, actions, and deeds. He devoted his life to his beautiful wife, son, extended family and friends. He was optimistic, and always had a strong will to live no matter how tough the obstacle. Carl always took time to be there for others…with limitless patience. His strength and endurance is an example for all of us. Carl was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, volunteering for the Ushers Group and enjoyed being a participant with his wonderful long-term friends in the Men’s Club, along with being a former elder.

Carl is survived by his lovely wife, Gertie of Fond du Lac; his son, Ronald Lilge of Huntsville, Alabama; and special adopted family, Jim, Patty, Ryan, Jamie, Rachel, Joey and Charle Burns; sister-in-law, Ruth Lilge of Sheboygan; best friends, Reverend Tom Hinz of Milwaukee, Mike and Judy Jaber and Diane Ziegler of Fond du Lac; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends…who all have given generously of their time and compassion throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Lilge; sisters, Bernice Reinecke and husband Robert, Elaine Curtiss and husband Romaine; and nephew, Tim Holdridge.

The visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 am on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 28, 2016 with Rev. Steven Huff officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour Broadcast.

Carl’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring nurses on the 6th floor of St. Agnes and the wonderful staff on 1st and 2nd floor of Harbor Haven, whom Carl was very fond of.
