Cyril Simon
Cyril H. Simon,
passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home with his
loving wife of seventy years, Athleen, holding his hand. He was born on January
16, 1921, in Fond du Lac, the son of Michael and Rosa (Koenen) Simon. Cyril met
Athleen at the dancehall in Eldorado and on February 5, 1949 they were married
at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Brandon. Cyril was the owner of Cyril Simon
Sand and Gravel. He dug many of the basements for the homes in the St. Peter
area.
He enjoyed playing
Blackjack; and he and Athleen made many trips to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed
woodworking; and his children will always cherish the gifts he made them for
Christmas. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and attended St. Peter’s
Catholic Church in St. Peter. He was also a member of the East Shore Lions and
volunteered as an eye transporter for them. He was a member of the St. Peter
Athletic Club and at one time served as a director. On summer Sunday afternoons
you would find him watching baseball games at the St. Peter Athletic Club
diamond cheering on his sons and grandchildren.
He is survived by
his wife, Athleen; his children, Anna (Bill) Klinke, Dan (Sherry) Simon, Tim
(Judy) Simon, Julie (Jeff) Kraemer, Doug (Cindy) Simon, Fran (Mike) Holzmann,
Pat (Chris) Simon, and Paul (Pam) Simon; eighteen grandchildren; twelve
great-grandchildren with two more on the way. He is further survived by three
sisters-in-law, Mildred Simon, Patricia Hunter, and Marilyn Smith; and a
brother-in-law, Phil Ruedinger.
He was preceded
in death by his parents; one daughter, Janet; three sisters and their spouses,
Cres (Oscar) Marggi, Elvira (Ed) Dubberstein, and Natalie (Ralph) Basler; four
brothers, Ambrose, Francis and his wife Joan, Alex and Bob and his wife Babe.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers-in-law Jim Smith, Bob Hunter and
Wes Williams; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Ruedinger and Eileen and her husband
Jim Pinch.
