Darlene A. Drews

Darlene Ann Drews, 73, of Waupun, died Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the town of Friendship.  

Dar was born on September 25, 1943 at her home in Randolph, WI, the daughter of Martin and Olive (Henke) Drews. Dar was the first to complete college (Wisconsin State College Oshkosh) in her family and spent 35 years teaching 1st graders in the Rosendale-Brandon School District. She loved her job and helped hundreds of children learn to read. She still volunteered at the elementary school in Rosendale, working with her “kids” this past spring. Dar traveled extensively, as far as New Zealand where she taught for a semester. Dar also taught a semester in Cork, Ireland. She made several trips to Costa Rica. Of course, she visited all 50 states in the U.S. During retirement, she volunteered at Marsh Haven Nature Center where she guided walks on the Horicon Marsh. She used her master gardening skills to help create gardens at Harris Park in Waupun. Dar was a very active member in her community and her church. She loved spending time with her family and they loved spending time with her. Dar lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every minute of it.  She will be missed.  

Darlene is survived by her sisters: Elaine Beer of Wake Forest, NC, and Kathleen Drews (Keven Mularkey) of Pound, WI; four nieces; three nephews; four great-nieces; three great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; and many relatives and friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Wilbert, Gerald, Marty, Curt and Tom; and an infant sister, Marcia.

Funeral services for Darlene Drews will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 124 S. Main Street, Rosendale, WI with Rev. Charles Thompson officiating. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
