Darrell M. Toshner

Darrell M. Toshner, born in Fond du Lac, WI died at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac on November 29, 2012 at the age of 88. 

Mr. Toshner lived in Fond du Lac for 65 years before settling in Brown Deer, WI.  He graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1942 and was class president his junior year.  Darrell participated in football and basketball while at Fond du Lac High School.  He was awarded All Conference running back in football and All Conference in basketball in the Fox River Valley Conference during his senior year.

He attended St. Norbert College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison before serving in the armed services during WWII for 36 months.  Two of those years were served in the European theater where he received training for Military Government at Ohio State University in the Army Specialized Training Program followed by assignments to Nordhausen, Germany and Roding, Bavaria.

Darrell was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Fond du Lac and the Holy Name Society.  While in Brown Deer he was a member of Lumen Christi Church in Mequon, WI where he served as an usher.

He was also an official with WIAA Association and belonged to the South Shore Officials Association for 27 years during which time he officiated football and basketball and served as president for two years.

Employed by Wisconsin Telephone Company (Ameritech) for 37 years he worked in Plant Engineering and Marketing.  He retired in 1982 and took a job as V.P. of Marketing for Spectrum Telephone Service with the Brandon-Alto Telephone Company.

Darrell is survived by his children; Stephen of Fond du Lac, Julie of Fond du Lac, Brian (Shirley Street) of Camano Island Washington, Brennan (Suzanne) of Chandler Arizona, Mary (Will Sykes) of Milwaukee, WI, Maureen (Mohammed Mohabali) of Fond du Lac and Blaine of Spring, TX; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother Art Toshner, sister Beverely Meinke, special friend Joyce Lukowitz; and by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by son, Kevin Joseph, his parents Martin and Elsie Toshner, sisters Gladys Schneider (James Schneider) and Betty Chapin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.

Visitation: Family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St. Fond du Lac, WI.

Services: At 11:00 AM on Tuesday December 4 at Zacherl Funeral Home a Service of Christian Burial will be celebrated.  Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Mequon, WI.
