Darrell N. Guell

Darrell Nathan Guell, 88, of Fond du Lac, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. Darrell was born on July 4, 1932, in the Town of Osceola, the son of the late Andrew and Alice Guell (nee Arndt). He attended Harcum Grade School, Daniel Boone School, and Lomira Grade School. Darrell left school after 8th grade to help on his family’s farm until he joined the U.S. Army. In 1961, he married Bette Eichstedt, and they raised four children before their marriage ended. On Dec. 3, 1986, Darrell married Connie Podgers. He worked at Mercury Marine as a machinist for 31 years. Darrell also worked at Gehl Company, in motor newspaper delivery, and hauled milk for over 50 years. He was known as “The Farmer” and sold potatoes at the Fond du Lac Farmers Market for over 20 years. In Darrell’s spare time, he enjoyed picking up hickory nuts and aluminum cans, and playing board games with his family. Darrell loved traveling, and every summer he took his family on vacations to different states. His many adventures took him to 11 countries in Europe, Mexico, Canada, and two-thirds of the United States. 

Those left behind to cherish Darrell’s memory include his wife, Connie; children, Roy (Chris) Guell of Fond du Lac, Lori (Ed) Zabel of Harris, MN, Barb (Matt) Breaux of North Fond du Lac, and Lynnette (Mike) Lozoya of Covina, CA; stepchildren, Nancy Williams of Green Bay, Ron Crawford of Oshkosh, and Steve Anthony of Cocoa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Aaron (Crystal) Guell, Daniel Guell, Elizabeth Guell, Edward Guell, Kelly (Brian) Larson, Tyler Zabel, Holly Zabel, Tony Breaux, Lauren Breaux and Livia Lozoya; step-grandchildren, Kelli (Jacob) Drummond, Rebecca Woznick, Leeane Birschbach, Mac (Carolyn) Williams, Robert (Cassandra) Frederick, Alex Crawford, Alexandra Anthony, and Dakota Hansen; four great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and brother, Ronald (Susan) Guell. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marion (Bill) Widler; niece, Carol Sue Widler, and his former wife, Bette Guell. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Twohig Funeral Home, 305 Fond du Lac Ave., Fond du Lac, WI 54935. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 12 p.m. Private family burial will take place at Empire Cemetery.
