David R. Weed

David R. Weed, 85, of rural Fond du Lac entered eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, April 18, 2022 at St. Agnes Hospital as a result of heart related issues. He was born on October 14, 1936 the son of Eleanor (Hills) and Morgan Weed in Fond du Lac, WI. On August 13, 1960, he was united in marriage to Audrey Schuman at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Montello, WI.

His childhood years were spent in Dotyville and the family later moved to Fond du Lac where he attended Fond du Lac public schools.  After high school he worked as a truck driver for the Lamartine Creamery.  He also was employed by Blakely Auto Parts and later Giddings and Lewis where he worked for 34 years before retiring in 1999. He served his country in the National Guard and as part of the 127th Infantry 32nd “Red Arrow” Division, was called to active duty for 10 months during the Berlin Crisis in 1961.

Dave enjoyed a full life with many activities. Auto racing, fishing, gardening, and attending the grandchildren’s sporting events were among his favorite things to do. He was also very handy and liked to tackle various fix-it projects. He and Audrey traveled extensively to most of the 50 states and to a few foreign countries.  He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, Fond du Lac serving as a dedicated usher for many years and as member of several church boards and committees. He will be fondly remembered as a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, with an endearing sense of humor and with a passion for helping others.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 62 years, Audrey; four children: Sharon (Bob) Belling, Dan (Beth) Weed, Brian (Chris) Weed, and Sue (Bobby) Walker; 10 grandchildren: Jason Belling, Justin (Katy) Belling, Michele (Alex) Sobeck, Ryan Weed, Rachel Weed, Aaron Weed, Nathan Weed, Jake (Raquel) Oechsner, Sarah Oechsner, and Blake Walker; two great-grandchildren: Autumn and Carson Sobeck, and twin great-grandsons expected in a few months. He is further survived by his brother Lyle (Marlene), sister-in-law Polly Weed, brother-in-law Ken Schuman, many nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Edwin and Edna Schuman, brother Norman and his first wife Virginia, and sister-in-law Jan Schuman.
