David Theadore Zellmer

David Theadore Zellmer, 76, was born on June 22, 1937 in Oshkosh, closed his eyes and was called to heaven after a long battle with multiple illnesses. David was the son of John and Marie Zellmer.

Upon graduating from Oshkosh High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served a full 4 years. The Army allowed him the opportunity to travel to Alaska, which he said was his favorite tour of duty.

On November 14, 1963, he married the most beautiful lady, Jill Wohlt, and together they had two children, a daughter, Stacey Thew and a son, David Edward Zellmer.

David was employed by Mercury Marine in plant 17, for 40 plus years, until his retirement. Once retired, David was able to do the things he loved. He had a great passion for the outdoors, both hunting and fishing. He loved to walk in the woods and see all that nature had to offer, including feeding the birds in his own backyard. Car rides were very routine for David and Jill as each weekend was filled with a new venture. David loved to take his wife out on the back country roads and point out deer in the fields. Other times they would travel to the Horicon Marsh to see the geese, and then find a restaurant for lunch. Time was also spent with his children and grandchildren. David’s eyes would light up when hearing that the family was having a get-together. Family was what was most important to him.

David is survived by his loving wife Jill of 49 years; two children, daughter, Stacey (Kirk) Thew and son, David Edward Zellmer; four grandchildren: Katie Schrank, Josh Zellmer, Kevin Thew and Elizabeth Vollrath; one great grandson Ethan Thew and his two pets who miss him,  Stewie the dog  and Henry his faithful lap cat. He is further survived by three sisters: Nancy Pearce, Gail Zellmer and Kay Otto; one brother Gary (Marie) Zellmer; sister in law Sandy Zellmer; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding David in death were his parents; one brother Jack Zellmer; and two sisters: Joan Kennedy and Mary Rausch.
