Dean M. Payne

Dean M. Payne, 87, of
Montoursville, Pennsylvania and Key West, Florida, passed away Monday, November
1, 2016, at Valley View Nursing Home.

 

He was born on January 25,
1929, in Fond du Lac, the only child of Leonard G. and Clarabel Cummings Payne.

 

Dean was a graduate of the
Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, and served his country in
both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War in the United States Navy,
retiring at the rank of Commander.

 

He taught Coastal and
Celestial Navigation at Florida Keys Community College, and owned a Marine
Hardware and Sail Loft.  He was a life
member of the Key West Yacht Club, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, was one of the
founding members of the Key West Sailing Club, and loved sailing.

 

He is survived by his wife,
the former Mary Jean Hackbart; his daughters: 
Susan Elliott and Virginia Payne; a stepson, James Parsons;
stepdaughters:  Lynne Lindsay, Karen
Davis, and Kimberly Williams; and five grandchildren.

 

A graveside service will be
held at Rienzi Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion
Trier-Puddy Post 75 on Monday, November 7, 2016, at 1:30 p.m.
