Debra J. Roethler

Debra J. Roethler, age 63, of New Holstein, died on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Oak Creek Assisted Living in Kiel. She was born April 1, 1953 in Fond du Lac, daughter of Raymond “Jim” Hephner and the late Virginia V. Lee.

Debra married Charles Niquette in February 1971 in New Holstein while he was serving in the Navy. She later married Emil Roethler in November of 1982 in New Holstein; he preceded her in death in 2005.

Throughout her life, Debra had moved very frequently, and always looked to make each of her houses a home; a very pretty home. Debra loved to decorate all of her dwellings and did an excellent job everywhere she went. She had even begun to decorate during her time at Oak Creek in Kiel. It was this eye for beauty that gave her a passion for quality artwork. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, drawing and creating hand made crafts.

As someone who loved to care for those around her, Debra excelled at cooking. She loved to make new dishes and especially loved making casseroles.

Debra was also very funny and looked for creative ways to pull pranks on unsuspecting people. It was very fitting she was born on her favorite holiday; April Fools Day.

In times where she wasn’t pulling pranks for creating works of art, Debra enjoyed playing board games and reading anything she could get her hands on; even the non-news of the day out of the National Enquirerer. What brought her the greatest joy, however, was spending time with her crowning glory, her grandchildren. Nothing in all the world made Debra happier than to know she was a grandma who simply adored her grandchildren.

Survivors include her dad: Jim Hephner; her children: Ian Niquette, Nichole (Mike) Buechel, Brett Roethler; 6 grandchildren: Adeline, Mason, Landon, Garver, & Laney Buechel and Sawyer Niquette; and her siblings: Barbara Heinen, Ramona Luedeman, Donna Phalin & Monty Hephner. She was preceded in death by her husband: Emil Roethler; mother and step-father: Virginia & Gordon Flaherty; and 2 brothers: Michael & Marcel Hephner.

Funeral service will be at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church (N10232 County Road G New Holstein) in Marytown with the Rev. Gary Wegner O.F.M. Cap. officiating.
