Dennis E. Thome

Dennis E. Thome, 78, of Fond du Lac, died Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mt. Calvary. He was born June 17, 1937 in Mt. Calvary, the son of Dennis and Caroline Dietzen Thome. On August 6, 1960 he married Joanne Olig at Sacred Heart Church in Fond du Lac. Dennis served in the US Army from September 1960 – September 1962 at Fort Benning, Georgia. After his service was completed he returned to the family farm in Mt. Calvary until 1964. He worked for Giddings & Lewisfor 35 years where he traveled to Africa, England, Germany, Czech Republic, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and throughout the United States as a Trainer/Run Off Technician. He also worked part-time at Anders Auto Parts in delivery for many years. 



Dennis was a charter member of the St. Peter Lions Club where he served as Secretary and as an Eye Transporter, was a trustee, lector and choir member at Holy Family Parish, St. Peter Church, a member of the G & L Oldtimers, commissioner for the Town of Taycheedah Sanitary District, and golfed on the Wednesday Night Mens Golf League at Whispering Springs. Dennis spent many hours fishing, golfing, hunting, visiting casinos, and gardening, which included growing and nurturing his beautiful rose garden. He also knew where all the hickory nut trees and asparagus patches were in the area. Dennis loved being outdoors in all seasons.



He is survived by his wife, Joanne; four children, Dr. Judene Thome (John Gochenaur), Theodore Thome, Michael (Kay) Thome, and James (Amy) Thome; seven grandchildren, Andrew and Daniel Gochenaur, Shelby Thome, Kaitlyn Thome, Bethany Thome, Stephany Thome, and Brian Thome; two sisters, Mary Jean Beyer and Doris Duwell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Betty Thome, Rose Marie Thome, Eugene (Dorothy) Olig, Norine (Keith) Rodenkirch, Caroline (friend, Greg) Olig, Rose (David) Kolstad, Susan (friend, Jeff) Pfeiffer, and Bob (Deb) Olig; many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carol Jean Thome in October 2013; his father and mother-in-law, Bruno and Aurelia Hau Olig; brothers, Earl, Aloys and Gordon Thome; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marion (Jack) Cotter, Lavern Beyer, and Eugene Duwell.



The visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home and again on Saturday from 9:30 – 11:00 am at the church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Holy Family Parish. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery.
