Donald A. Schaefer

Donald A. Schaefer, age 89, of Chilton, died on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton. He was born December 6, 1924 in Lake Villa, IL, son of the late Claude & Sophie (Dekker) Schaefer. Donald proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. Following his discharge in 1946, he married Theresa Meier on June 26, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown. Donald enjoyed many professions throughout his life starting with his own local trucking company. He also worked as a Field Foreman for the canning company, building deep and long lasting friendships. His professional employement concluded with selling implements for Riesterer and Schnell and driving school bus for 25 years. Along the way, he managed to cash crop on two local farms. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Quinney and Brothertown Fishing Clubs, and VFW Post 3153. With all the free time Don could muster, he went ice fishing, hunting, planting pumpkins and gardening. Opportunities to play Sheepshead gave Donald another chance to spend time with family or friends. He especially looked forward to traveling with Theresa, experiencing new sites together, and visiting locations of his past to see how things have changed. Above all other things, he always made himself available to his family, and extended family. Survivors include his wife: Theresa; his children: Dave (Miriam) Schaefer of DePere, Joan (Don) Rowan of Maryland, Mary (Mark) Ortmayer of Green Bay, Daniel (Linda) Schaefer of Stockbridge, Lois Schaefer of Fond du Lac; a son-in-law: Glen Beiser; a daughter-in-law: Jane Schaefer; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters: Myra (Fritz) Diedrich, Barb (John) Steenport; a brother: Claude (Sue) Schaefer; and 2 sisters-in-law: Jackie Schaefer and Carol Meier. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Patricia Beiser; a son: Michael Schaefer; a grandson, Chad Schaefer; sisters: Mildred (Frank) Satzer, Margaret (CJ) Propson, a brother: Cyril Schaefer and an infant brother: Earl. Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (54 E. Main St.) in Chilton with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Jericho. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 am until 11:30 am on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Memorials may be given in the name of Donald A. Schaefer.
