He was born December 6, 1924 in Lake Villa, IL, son of the late Claude & Sophie (Dekker) Schaefer. Donald proudly served in the United States Army in Germany during WWII. Following his discharge in 1946, he married Theresa Meier on June 26, 1947 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marytown. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, the Quinney and Brothertown Fishing Clubs, and VFW Post 3153. With all the free time Don could muster, he went ice fishing, hunting, planting pumpkins and gardening. Opportunities to play Sheepshead gave Donald another chance to spend time with family or friends.
