Donald A. Zoellner

Donald A. Zoellner, 86, of Fond du Lac, entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 25, 2016 after a courageous battle with a serious illness. He was born June 10, 1929 in Fond du Lac, the son of Gilbert and Edith Skupa Zoellner. Don graduated from UW Madison with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and taught art in public schools for over 30 years, retiring in 1992 from Theisen Middle School. On December 15, 1951 he married Audrey R. Abbs at Plymouth Congregational UCC. He was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ. Don was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family more than anything. He loved working on art projects of all kinds and has provided much beauty to those around him with his paintings and creative work. Don enjoyed making Christmas ornaments each year for his grandchildren. He was also an avid gardener and loved working in his flower beds.



He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey; his daughter, Tammy (Gary) Steier of Chilton; three grandchildren, Arianna, Jacob, and Matthew Steier, who were the light of his life. He is further survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Balthazor of Fond du Lac; his brother-in-law, Don (Alice) Abbs of Elgin, IL; and a special niece, Debbie (Jim) Pelky; other nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Zoellner.



The visitation will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 535 Stow Street, Fond du Lac. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Pilgrim UCC with Rev. Ted Drewsen officiating. Burial will take place on Monday in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery.



The family would like to thank all those who helped him and provided support these last few months, at Froedtert Lutheran Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Woodlands Senior Park, and Agnesian Hospice.
