Donald F. Hammes

Donald F. Hammes, 79, of Campbellsport passed away Wed. Aug. 27, 2014 at his home with his family gathered around him. Don was the son of John and Laura (nee Kessler) Hammes; born on Oct. 11, 1934 in West Bend. He was a 1952 graduate of Kewaskum High School and served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 1, 1954 until Nov. 30, 1956 in Machine Gun Platoon “H” Company 39, 61st AAA Battalion as a Headquarters Company Clerk with the 8th Division. On June 29, 1957, Don married Doris Bogenschutz. Don worked at the West Bend Co. from 1952 until 2000 when he retired along with Doris. He was an officer of West Bend Co. Union Local 865 for many years, a member of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post #384 in Kewaskum, a board member of the Long Lake Fishing Club, a charter member of the New Fane Sportmans Club, a committee member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a board member of the Dundee Sportmans Club. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, feeding birds, playing cards and go lf but most importantly spending time with his family. 



Those left behind to cherish Don’s memory include his wife Doris, his children Dave (Deb) Hammes of Crosby, TX, Daniel Hammes of Campbellsport, Doreen (Gary) Thull of Howard, PA, Dale (Nancy) Hammes of Alton, NH, Doug (Becky) Hammes of Campbellsport and Dawn (Scott) Weiss of Iron Ridge, his grandchildren Danna (Drew) Courson, Diane (John) Burleson, Daniel Hammes, Dominique (Chad) Miller, Naomi (Brandon) Schwartz, Zachariah Thull, Zephaniah (Kelsey) Thull, Jessica (Steve) Hermiz, Melissa Hammes, Heather (Pat) Quinn, Paige and Brynn Hammes and Ashley, Lindsey and Dustin Weiss, 13 great grandchildren, extended family Mary and Pete Gramoll and family, brother Jim (Ann) Hammes of Eden, sisters Rita (Alfred) Schmitt of West Bend and Diane (James) Kleinke of Hot Springs, AR, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jerry and Sylvia Bogenschutz, Tom and Carol Bogenschutz, Gary and Laura Bogenschutz all of Texas, Debbie Bogenschutz of Neenah and Mary King of Arizona, other relatives and fri ends. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Margaret and Elmer Bogenschutz, sister-in-law Janice Mueller and brother-in-law Jim Bogenschutz 



Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday Sept. 1st at 5:00 PM at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Rd. B, Eden. Rev. John Radetski will officiate. 

Visitation will be Monday Sept. 1st from 3:00 PM until time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donald Hammes’ name may be directed to: Keys Scholarship Fund-Kewaskum, PO Box 124 Kewaskum, WI 53040 or Capital Improvement Fund at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Parish, W1562 County Rd. B Eden, WI 53019.
