Donald H. Trott

Donald H. Trott, 94, of Fond du Lac, died on June 30, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born on September 24, 1923 in Fond du Lac, a son of Jacob and Elizabeth Kaiser Trott. He was married to Margaret Christie on December 28, 1946 in the rectory of St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac. Margaret died on February 5, 2006. Their union lasted 60 years.

Don graduated from Fond du Lac High School in 1941. He entered World War II military service on Valentine’s Day 1943. He received his military flight wings in December of that year. He had learned to fly prior to his military schooling. He spent ten months in a German prison camp – Stalag Luft One, at Barth on the Baltic Sea.

He attended the University of Wisconsin system for two years. From that point he continued his military flying at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee as a member of the Air Force Reserve for 20 years. He completed his service with the rank of Major.

Don worked as a foreman for Kiekaefer Aeromarine, as a stock clerk for Damrow Brothers and as a time keeper for Smith Construction prior to flying for Giddings and Lewis Machine Tool Company. In 1960 he joined Kimberly Clark’s aviation department where he flew for 24 years.

Upon retirement he and his beloved Margaret spent some of their time exploring the United States and portions of Europe. England was a choice vacation area for them. The Alps were also particularly suited to their interests. Back in the States family members shared with them in exploring Mt. Rainier and other mountainous areas. They were also able to enjoy some of the Grand Canyon during a river rafting vacation.

He was an usher for Immanuel Trinity Church for 25 years. Don’s most enjoyable work in his retirement was as a Bible Study teacher for 23 years. Don especially appreciated his friendships with Dr. Fred Born, George Waehler and David Cronce.

Don is survived by one daughter, Jeanne Bunker of Appleton; two sons, Steven (Sherry) Trott of Grand Rapids MI, and David (Nancy) Trott of Ortonville MI; two grandchildren, Michael (Sara Hottinger) Bunker and Kara (Ben) Wilderman; one step granddaughter, Lynne Peters and five great-grandchildren: Kyle Peters, Amelia and Emmeline Bunker and Henry and Margaret Wilderman. He is further survived by a sister Virginia Jones and a sister-in-law Mildred Christie Miller.

He was also preceded in death by his brother Leo and his sister Jean Kocos.

Visitation: Family will receive relatives and friends on TUESDAY, July 3, 2018, at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. There will also be a visitation at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church, 20 Wisconsin American Drive, Fond du Lac, on THURSDAY, July 5, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM.

Services: A funeral service will be celebrated on THURSDAY, July 5, 2018 at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum at Ledgeview Memorial Park.
