Donald J. Konen

Donald J. Konen, age 81, of Chilton, died on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Willowpark Assisted Living in New Holstein. He was born May 24, 1933 in Fond du Lac, son of the late Ferdinand & Marcella (Ott) Konen. He married Evelyn Geiser on October 28, 1953 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Jericho. He farmed in the Town of Brothertown, and began operating an agricultural feed business, Don’s Mobile Milling, in 1965. In 1985, he began trucking for Cargill, hauling feed throughout the State of Wisconsin until his retirement in 2003. It was at this time that Don & Evelyn moved to the lake where he enjoyed the remainder of his retirement. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church, formerly Holy Trinity Parish where he also served on the Parish Council, the Cemetery Board and belonged to the Holy Trinity Chapters of the Catholic Knights, and the Knights of Columbus. Don loved to work. Even through his retirement he didn’t remain still for very long. It wasn’t uncommon to find him puttering in the shed, fixing whatever needed to be fixed or welding. He also made himself always available to family and friends if they were in need of an extra set of hands, or his fixing expertise. He will be remembered as such a caring person with a genuine sense of humor who appreciated time spent with his family. Survivors include his wife: Evelyn; his children: Duane (Melody) Konen, Donna Bruns and her special friend: Gary Baker, Daniel (Ann) Konen, Diane (Steve) Tasch; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren with another arriving soon; a sister: Rose (Tony) Winters; a brother: John (Linda) Konen; and a sister-in-law: Lois Geiser. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law: Rex Bruns; a grandchild: Preston Tasch; 4 sisters-in-law and their spouses; and 7 brothers-in-law and their spouses. Funeral services will be at 11:30 am on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church with the Rev. Ryan Krueger officiating.
