Dorothy Frances Wiener

Dorothy Frances Wiener, 88, of North Fond du Lac, passed away at St. Agnes Hospital on Saturday, December 22, 2012.  Dorothy was born in Los Angeles CA on March 2, 1924, a daughter of John and Marguerite (Nunn) Thorton.  Dorothy graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Notre Dame, Indiana. 

On September 25, 1943 she married Francis J. Wiener in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fond du Lac. 

Dorothy was employed at Infant Socks and at the Old Fond du Lac County Home.  She was state certified as an Occupational Therapist Assistant and worked at the Fond du Lac County Mental Health Center.  She also was an upholstery supervisor for Advocap, teaching the unemployed how to hold a job. 

Dorothy enjoyed photography and was a railroad enthusiast.  She was a member of Woman’s Touch Homemakers, a 4H Leader for many years, member of the Lions Auxiliary, Secretary and President of the Fond du Lac County Genealogy Society, Treasurer of the North Fond du Lac Historical Society and member of the Milwaukee Chapter National Railway society.  In 1986 she was an editor of Sparks and Cinders of the Wisconsin Chapter National Railroad Historical Society, President in 1987-88. 

She also was President of the East Central Rehabilitation Association, Senior President of the Chief Oshkosh Society, National Society for Children of the American Revolution, past Regent of the DAR, corresponding secretary of the Fond du Lac Chapter of the DAR and a past president of the Fond du Lac Area Apartment Association. 

At St. Joseph Catholic Church Dorothy was a member of the Parish Council, the Prayer and Worship Committee, the Merger Committee for Prayer and Worship, and ministry scheduler.  She was a Lector and Eucharistic Ministers, taught Religious Education and helped start the parish library.  She was webmaster for Holy Family Parish. 

Dorothy is survived by two sons, David (Marcia) Wiener of Appleton and Mark (Bonnie) Wiener of North Fond du Lac; granddaughters, Colette (Jim) Taylor, Rachelle (Mark) Lancaster, Carrie (Christopher) Gau, Beth (Chris) Sekerka, Amy (Brian) Larson, Heather (Steve) Tautges, and Laura (Joel) Mathwig; great grandsons, Jacob and Bradley Kubelt, Devon Taylor, Theodore Glime, Trevor Goodwin, Samuel Gau, Luke Sekerka, Leo Tautges, Braydon Brylski; great granddaughters, Emma and Ava Larson, Maggie and Abby Sekerka, Amelia Wiener; sister, Grace Jackson; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Glenn) Pommerich, Margaret (Glenn) Miller and Louise Wiener; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Dorothy in death are her parents; husband; sons, Paul and Charles; brothers, Robert and John Thorton; sister, Rose Piper.

Visitation:  Dorothy’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division St., Fond du Lac, on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.  There is also visitation Thursday morning, December 27, at Sacred Heart Church, 200 S. Peters Avenue, Fond du Lac, from 10:00 until 10:45 AM.

Services:  At 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 27, at Sacred Heart Church, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.

Memorial in her name may be directed to Holy Family Parish.
