Duane “Buck” Gannon

Duane “Buck” Gannon, 85, formerly of 189 Welsh Street passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at St. Francis Terrace.

He was born on December 21, 1927 in Chippewa Falls, WI, the son of the late Arthur M. and Beatrice Bergeron Gannon.

On September 20, 1949 he married Dorothy Ann Wleczyk in Manitowoc, WI.  She preceded him in death on December 31, 1996.

On November 16, 2000 he married Dolores Frances Gratton at Holy Family St. Joseph’s Church.  She preceded him in death on March 5, 2012.

Buck attended schools in Menasha graduating from High school in 1945.  He served with the United States Navy as a Flight Controller on the Island of Attu in the Aluetian Islands for 13 months.

After his military service he worked as a printer – compositor for the Manitowoc Herald Times, coming to Fond du Lac in 1953 where he worked for the Commonwealth Reporter as a Linotype operator.  In 1979 he started working for the U.S. Postal service until his retirement in December1989. 

He is a long time member of the International Typographical and of the American Postal Workers Unions serving in a number of offices.  Also, a long time member of Holy Family Parish St. Joseph’s Church, The Men’s Club, Usher’s Society and worked for many years with the Boy Scouts and was very active in the Catholic Committee on Scouting.  Buck is also a member of the Trier-Puddy American Legion Post #75 in Fond du Lac.

Survivors include two sons: David (Patty) Gannon of Oshkosh and Daniel (Kara) Gannon of Tomahawk, WI; one daughter Debra McLain of Fond du Lac; three step children, Robert (Cindy) Gratton and Thomas (Donna) Gratton both of North Fond du Lac and John (Nancy) Gratton of Oshkosh; thirteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother Mike (Charmayne) Gannon of Fond du Lac; two sisters: Dolores (Edward D.) Fenner and Kathleen Behnke both of Fond du Lac; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Buck was preceded in death by his brother Patrick in 1934, his son-in-law Mark McLain, and a brother-in-law John “Jack” Behnke.

Visitation:  Family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 3, 2013 at Holy Family Church, 271 4th Street Way, from 10:00 to 11:45 am.

Services:  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Church on Monday at 12:00 Noon.  Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

A memorial in his name will be established.
