Edward F. Meier
Edward F. Meier, 91, of North Fond du Lac, took his Savior’s hand and entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Artisan Assisted Living Center. He was born in Milwaukee on October 9, 1921, a son of Oscar and Mammie (Brunner) Meier.
On February 3, 1945 he married Marcella Tweedale at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.
Ed grew up at St. Amelian’s Orphanage in Milwaukee. He joined the United States Army on December 1, 1940 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was in the 27th Infantry, 25th (Lightning) Division. Ed was in battles in Guadalcanal, Bougainville, and on reserves for the Battle of Midway Island. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Ed was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
Ed was employed in various places, including a distributor for Borden’s Milk and he retired from International Paper in Fond du Lac.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes (city champion for a number of years), bowling, baseball and football.
Ed is survived by four children, Dennis (Nancy) Meier of Ripon, Lawrence (Susan) Meier of Menomonee Falls, Linda (Steve) Hoeppner of North Fond du Lac and Kathleen (Roy) Culberson of Marco Island, FL; 16 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends, including June Pipkin.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Marcella, brothers and sisters, including Arthur Meier and his wife Doris, brothers-in-law, Orville Schopf and Alvin Tweedale.
Visitation: Ed’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1010 Adams Avenue, North Fond du Lac, from 9:00 until 10:45 AM.
Services: At 11:00 AM on Monday, January 7, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church a Celebration of Christian Life will take place. Pastors Thomas Behnke and Michael Kampman will officiate. Burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park, where military honors will be presented.
