Eugene F. McEvoy

Eugene “Red” F. McEvoy, 96, passed away at home on December 30, 2021. He was born on August 26, 1925 to the late William and Lou Ella (Brandenburg) McEvoy in Fond du Lac.

Red married the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny” Kachain, at St. Joseph Church in 1947. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, where he served for three years, two of them overseas in the South-West Pacific aboard the LCI 640 South West Pacific. Red was honorably discharged with a rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class Gunners Mate.

Red began his career as a laborer. After a few years, Red worked for Laborers’ International Union of North America as a Business Agent and was promoted to Business Manager before his retirement.

Red was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of the American Legion. He was also an usher at St. Joseph Church for a number of years.

Red is survived by his loving wife Ginny, children Kathy (Dave) Stroup and Jerry (Lois) McEvoy, grandchildren Tim (Megan Schommer) McEvoy, Rob (Amy) McEvoy, Derek (Megyn) Stroup and Brian (Jen) Stroup, seven great grandchildren Josalin, Caysen, Mason, Bella, Emma, Caleb and Maddie and one sister-in-law Jeanette Manthei.

He was preceded in death by his son Michael McEvoy, his parents and his sister Virginia Diedrich.

A private service will be held. Red will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
