Eugene “Gene” David Joyce

Eugene “Gene” David Joyce, 75, passed away on August 2, 2022 at Hospice Home of Hope, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Topeka, KS to Jack Heim and Kathleen Joyce on July 8, 1947.

Gene left high school at age 17 to join the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1964 to 1968 and did two tours in Vietnam, leaving honorably with the rank of Lance Corporal.

Gene married Minta Beckner on July 31, 1982 in Redwood City, CA. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He worked as a locksmith for over 20 years and delivered packages for EP Direct until his retirement.

Gene collected Coca-Cola memorabilia, enjoyed fishing and loved riding his motorcycle. He was a classic car enthusiast and could name the make and model of any old car.

Left to treasure Gene’s memory are his wife Minta; sons Patrick (Meghan) Joyce and David Joyce; daughters Shellby Joyce, Courtney Joyce, Toni Rabe, Sara Moore and Lori; and grandchildren AnnaBella Joyce, Brannen Joyce, Camdyn Bowe and Colesyn Bowe.

Gene is further survived by a brother James (Debra) Joyce, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Jason Joyce, a baby girl Ashley, an infant son and his parents.

Services: Gene’s family invites relatives and friends for a time of visitation on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Zacherl Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Military honors will be conduct at 6:30 p.m. by American Legion Post #454.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family.

Gene’s family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Home of Hope for their gentle and respectful care for Gene and compassion for the family.
