Eugene “Gene” Waldschmidt, 71, of Campbellsport passed away after a courageous battle with Gillian Bray Disease on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017 at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. He was born May 17, 1945 in Fond du Lac, the son of George and Mary (nee Dreikosen) Waldschmidt. Gene farmed all his life on the family farm. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and a life member of the Forest Sportsman’s Club. Gene enjoyed shooting trap, farm shows, being outdoors, gardening and playing cards especially sheepshead. He was a John Deere Man and said his best investment was his John Deere Combine. Gene loved to talk farming and his family, friends and neighbors were the most important things in his life.
Gene is survived by his special friend Judy Lohse, his brother Paul (Karen) Waldschmidt, his sister Joan Klapperich his nephew and nieces Allan (Stephanie)Waldschmidt, Jeanne (Rich) Landrath and Kristina, Kaitlyn and Mary Klapperich, his great nephews and niece Jordan, Nathan, Connor and Myla, Judy’s children Kim (Mike) Welsh, Karla (Paul) Kohlmann and Kirk Lohse and her grandchildren Jared and Courtney Kohlmann, other relatives and many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Allen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 6th at 6:00 PM at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 406 E. Main St. Campbellsport. Rev. Mark Jones will officiate and family burial will be Saturday, Jan 7th in St. Matthews Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 6th from 3:00 PM until time of Mass at the Church.
