Evelyn Marion (Seiler) Casper

Evelyn Marion (Seiler) Casper, age 90, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, peacefully departed for her eternal reward on Friday, June 7, 2013.  Evelyn was born February 21, 1923 at Hustisford, Wisconsin, to her Swiss immigrant parents, Alfred and Martha (Feller) Seiler.  Shortly thereafter, her parents moved to Eldorado, Wisconsin, where they owned and operated a cheese factory.

 

Evelyn attended Cowham Grade School in rural Eldorado, and graduated from Goodrich High School in 1940.  She received a Bachelor’s degree from Carroll College, Waukesha, Wisconsin, in 1944, and also attained her teaching certificate from San Diego State University in 1957.

 

Evelyn married Alexander John Casper on June 22, 1946, at St. John’s Cathedral, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  They resided in Malone, Wisconsin, and then Eldorado, Wisconsin, until 1951 when they moved to San Diego, California.  In 1958 they returned to Wisconsin and established residence in Chilton, Wisconsin, for 23 years.  While in Chilton, Evelyn was active in St. Mary’s Church Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabelle, and the VFW Auxiliary.  She was also a volunteer librarian and a member of the Chilton Library Board, before becoming the head librarian for 12 years, during which she was involved in the construction of a new library.

 

After their retirement, Evelyn and her husband moved to Fond du Lac in 1981, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart Altar & Rosary Society and a Perpetual Adoration participant.  She also was a St. Francis Home volunteer and an active member of its auxiliary.

 

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Evelyn enjoyed bridge and her many travels in the United States and abroad, as well being an avid quilter and reader.

 

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Nicholas A. Casper (AnnaMaria), Fond du Lac, John A. Casper, Merida, Mexico, Fredrick A. Casper (Jacqueline), Tampa, Florida and Stephen J. Casper (Rachel), Apple Valley, Wisconsin, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as her special and beloved friend, Philip Langenecker. 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Martha Seiler, her husband, Alex J. Casper (May 20, 1998) and a grandson, Alex McLellan (December 4, 2003).

 

Evelyn’s family wants to acknowledge the loving care and assistance provided her by the staff of St. Francis Home & Terrace and Agnesian Hospice Hope.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to Agnesian Hospice Hope.

 

Visitation: The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

 

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Francis Home Chapel on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac.
