Evelyn Wettstein

Evelyn Wettstein, 92, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully
on Friday, July 14, 2017, in her daughter’s home, with family by her side.

Evelyn was born on December 24, 1924 to William and Evelyn
(Kitowski) Knapstein and raised in New London, WI where her father owned and
operated Knapstein Brewing Company. One of her earliest memories and a point of
personal pride was witnessing a federal alcohol bust at her family home during
prohibition. She had a habit of questioning authority ever since.

Evie graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee with a
degree in Occupational Therapy. She married Roy Wettstein on August 11, 1947 at
Most Precious Blood Church in New London. After her husband Roy’s tragic and
early death she raised four children alone.

The home she had made with Roy was comfortable and
delightful due to Evie’s creativity in decorating and celebrating holidays.

The family’s life was enriched by Evie’s sister, Maxine, her
husband Fred, and the Hammang cousins who lived just up the street. Evie’s
brothers and sisters-in law were faithful friends and the Wettstein and Tack
cousins frequented the home.

A fan of Bill Maher and Aaron Rogers, Evie’s quick wit and
sharp observations drew people to her. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the
banter of political discourse.

Survivors include daughters Nina Reyes (Oscar), Paula Sergi
(Michael) and Laura Herrera (John Galaska); grandchildren Paul and Nathan
Reyes, (Jenny), Gregory and Frank Sergi; great grandchildren Harper and Hayes
Reyes. She is further survived by nieces and nephews.

Other blessings in her life include friendships with Elaine Sullivan,
Jeanne Trauger, Jeanine Gores, Jane Majeska, Julie Guell, Wanda Ross and Cathy
Bell. Later in life she enjoyed her neighbors at Southlake Cottages, especially
Evelyn McMurray and Louann Nell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy in 1956, her
son, Gregory in 1976, her parents, siblings and in-laws.

The family thanks the good people at Lakeland Care District,
Community Alternatives and Agnesian Hospice Hope.
