George Gialourakos

George Gialourakos, 93, of Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 1, 2022. He was born on February 6, 1928, in Athens, Greece to John and Andromache Gialourakos.

As a teenager, he witnessed firsthand the German occupation of Greece on the streets of Athens during World War II. After the war, George served in the Greek Army from 1951 -53. He came to America in 1955, first to New York City then, in 1956 he met Georgia Poulos of Fond du Lac and they were married on June 9, 1957, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Fond du Lac where he has been a member ever since. They shared a 56-year marriage before her death in 2013.

In the business world all his life, he was also an accomplished machinist. Geroge firmly believed in working in one way or another, refusing to fully retire.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Andrew of Fond du Lac; a daughter, Presbytera Kathy Gialourakos Pappas; and grandson, Perry George Pappas of Crown Point, IN. He is further survived by nephews, a Goddaughter, Maria Athanasiou, as well as many longtime friends here and in Greece. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Nick and Tasso, sisters Anna and Koula, and son-in-law, Father George.

Per his wishes all services will be private followed by burial in Rienzi Cemetery.
