George R. Kiesler

George R. Kiesler of Taycheedah died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at Hospice Home of Hope. He was born on November 27, 1925, the son of Fond du Lac’s first Director of Recreation, F.G.Kiesler and Gustava Kiesler. George attended L.P. Goodrich High School and entered the US Navy at age 17, serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He told vivid stories about his worldwide travels during his years of service to our country.

He returned home and became a sales representative for Royal Brass Company and traveled throughout his assigned territory of Michigan. There he met June Kathleen Johnson, whom he married in Dubuque, Iowa, on February 21, 1953.

George was employed by the Soo Line railroad for over 30 years and proudly served as a local and division chairman for the railroad worker’s union for many years. He was also a fine craftsman and enjoyed remodeling our family home and our family Homestead on the shores of Lake Michigan. He loved fixing and refurbishing antiques and was extremely proud of his extraordinary collection of mantel clocks and ships. Above all, he loved his Friday night fish fry.

He is survived by his daughters Amy (Michael) Kust of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Sara (Daniel) Kohn of Appleton and grandchildren Andrew, Madeline and Rachel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. No formal visitation is planned at this time. Family and special friends will gather at a later date to remember George and to celebrate his life with a Friday night fish fry. Thank you to everyone for your love and prayers.
