Germaine C. Schommer
Germaine C. Schommer formerly of Eden passed away peacefully on Monday, July 4, 2022 at Serenity Villa in Campbellsport at the age of 101. She was born June 7, 1921, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Ketter) Schommer.
Germaine grew up on a dairy farm between Eden and Campbellsport. Her first 8 years of schooling were at the Glen Valley School, a one-room country school. Having no brothers, Germaine helped with the farm work, milking cows, hauling hay, shocking grain, cutting thistles and picking strawberries. In 1939 she graduated from Campbellsport High School and from the Sheboygan County Normal School in 1941. In later years she attended Marian College and received her B.S. degree. Germaine taught at a number of schools including Elmore, Glen Valley, St. Mary’s School and at the end of her career taught at Campbellsport Elementary School. After retiring she continued to substitute teach. She stayed with books and sold World Book Encyclopedias to schools and families until computers took over. Germaine enjoyed traveling to various areas of the U.S. on group tours and doing volunteer work at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church. She also enjoyed eating out with friends, sewing, gardening and reading.
Survivors include her nephews Peter Briggs, Patrick (Rita) Briggs, George Hass and James O’Rourke, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends
Germaine was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth (George) Hass, Pauline (Donald) Arthur and Catherine (James) Briggs and infant brother Paul.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of Mass on Thursday, July 7th at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, W1562 County Road Eden.
Mass of Christian Burial will at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 7th at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Jones will officiate and burial will follow in St. Matthews Cemetery, Campbellsport.
