Gladys E. Flood

Gladys E. Flood, 88, of Oakfield died peacefully Saturday Jan. 24, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in the Town of Empire on Sept. 17, 1926, the daughter of Nick and Rose (nee Rieden) Koenigs. On Oct. 2, 1948 Gladys married Vernon Flood at St. Mary’s Church in Fond du Lac. They farmed together in the Town of Oakfield. Gladys was a member of Sons of Zebedee Parish, St. James Church. Her many activities include 4-H leader for Weeping Willow 4-H Club and superintendent at Fond du Lac Co. Fair. She was also active with Lakeside Twirlers, Oakfield Music Assoc, Rising Sun Grange, Loyal Homemakers Club, Galloway House tour guide and historian, Oakfield Lamartine Quilting Club, Altar Society at both St. Joseph’s in Waupun and St. James in Oakfield, AMPI Women’s Assoc, school lunch program at St. Joseph’s, and an avid chaperone and volunteer for her 10 children’s school activities. Gladys loved to travel both nationally and internationally. Her passi ons in the past years were crafting, quilting and loved to attend school, church and sporting events of her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing kings in the corner with her grandchildren and great grandchildren until her last days. 



Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children Michael Flood of Oakfield, Kathy (Bob) Grebe of Owatonna, MN, Mary Ellen Flood of Grand Junction, CO, Patricia (James) Bovee of Oakfield, Daniel (Wendy) Flood of Oakfield, Maureen (Peter) Joy of Waterford, Carol (Mike) Roller, of Merton and Bill (Stacey) Flood of Rosendale, 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Marion Flood of Fond du Lac, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Vernon on Jan. 20, 2004, two sons Allen R. and John D., a great grandson Lieym Bovee, a sister Caroline Freund and her husband Ambrose, a brother Norman Koenigs , a beloved sister-in-law Mary Koenigs, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jerry Flood, Jane and Darwin Tonn and Bernice and Bob Majerus. 



Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday Jan. 30th at 10:30 AM at Sons of Zebedee-St. James Church, 101 N. Main St. Oakfield. Rev. Michael Petersen will officiate and entombment will follow in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac. 

Visitation will be Thursday Jan 29th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Twohig Funeral Home, 305 Fond du Lac Ave. Fond du Lac and on Friday Jan 30th from 9:30 AM until time of mass at the church in Oakfield. Memorials may be directed to the church of your choice, Fond du Lac County 4-H Assoc or Give Kids the World.
